Here's what Shweta speaks about her journey, some of her favourite projects done in past...and about her creative journey so far...

This is Shwetha Mahadevan from India. Though a graduate in Commerce, I am an artist by profession and I have been actively involved in creating art works for the past 17 years. I began painting at the age of 4 and gradually experimented and specialised in using several mediums like acrylic, oil, water colours and pastels. I have showcased my paintings in various events and competitions, winning several accolades for the same, and I have also exhibited my art works in 10 solo

exhibitions. I discovered my interest in crafting as recently as 2016. Since then, I have been trying my hand at creating mixed media, decoupage, altered art, art journal, designing papers and paper craft projects. I have been running my own art school for the past 7 years, through which I provide both online and offline classes to my students. I love teaching art and imparting my knowledge to others. I am also associated with a brand as a designer and involved in  few blogs.

How it’s all started? (My crafting Journey)

Since my childhood I have been painting and showcasing my art works. Crafting was a new-found interest that I developed. I seemed very enticing to pursue my interest in crafting along with art, therefore, I combined art and craft together and started making projects that were an amalgamation of both colours and textures. I have taken part in numerous International, national and state competitions and have won more than 200 prizes. It was really encouraging to see that my projects have received acknowledgment and praise from many eminent art institutions and since then, there has been no turning back. People outside the art circle also find my work credible as I work on private orders, customising my work based on their demands.

What Inspired me?

Initially it was father who inspired me to become an artist. He being an artist himself, has always inculcated the practice of drawing in me and since my childhood, I grew up seeing him working on his paintings. Then, there have a myriad of artists and crafters from all around the world who have inspired me and continue to do so. I keenly observed each one’s unique style and that helped me identify, create and improvise on my own style.

My Most favourite crafts of all?

When it comes to favourite it is hard to choose. I do like every work of mine because it involves my creativity at it’s best. I have enclosed some of my works and all are my favourite.

My style of crafting?

Altered canvas has always been my signature element. As an artist, canvas has been my constant companion when I paint. From there, I have progressed to making

mixed media projects on canvas, altered mixed media, decoupage, paper flower making, jewellery making, scrapbooking, art journal, and travel journal paintings.

My Future Plans?

I love to widen my horizons by experimenting and creating one-of-a-kind, standalone art and craft projects. Another thing that I am passionate about is teaching drawing, and sharing my knowledge. Through my Youtube channel I have been able to reach out to many people. I have been documenting the processes that I use to create a project. I would also love to take my art school to a higher level and impart my knowledge and expertise with as many students as possible.

Message for all Craft Buddies!!

‘To create an art work with what you have’

Crafting always gives me free reign to play with several unique materials, triggering my creating senses to create beautiful art works even from junk. And I am sure it is the same for everybody. Nobody is inferior. Innovation and imagination are not a property of a single person. . By supporting each other we can succeed as a

notable Crafter! All the best to fellow crafters
